SKHOSANA

Mr. Skhosana graduated in Adams College of Education with a Secondary Teacher’s Diploma majoring with Accounting and Business Economics. He obtained Management Development Programme (MDP) and Competent Project Management (CPM) certificates in 2013 and 2014 respectively at the University of KwaZulu Natal. Presently finalizing his research component after successful completion of all theoretical modules examination for MBA at MANCOSA.


Mr. Aleck Skhosana started as a stand out athlete in 1981 by becoming a National Schools Javelin champion and sportsman of the year in 1985 at Amanzimtoti College of Education. He was the first black athlete to qualify for the high Hurdles in the history of South African Amateur Athletics Union. He set a National 110m Hurdle record 4 times in Tertiary SA and Championed 110m Hurdles for 12 consecutive times in KZN Athletic Federation. He also captained KwaZulu Natal Athletics Senior Team. He was a founding member and an Executive Member of Sports and Recreation Council in 1993 and served as a Strategic Planning Chairman for the same Council. In 1997 he was elected as the General Manager for KZN Southern Coastal Team to USSASA.

Mr. Skhosana has served in various capacities in different sports organizations and has been involved in the sports movement since his days as an amateur athlete. He took on a tremendous challenge in becoming the President of KwaZulu Natal Athletics in July 2000 and further embraced this challenge as he was re-elected for second term in office unopposed in November 2004 and for the third term in 2008. He has accompanied various National Teams to International competitions in more than ten countries. His background and experience has made him a stronger asset in KZN Athletics front office, a dual function that he shared on full time basis as a Manager for KZN Academy of Sport. He also worked for the Department of Education, Arts and Culture & Sport and Recreation as the Assistant Director and taught at Ogwini Comprehensive Technical High School based at Umlazi.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Received an MEC Honors Sports Awards in 2017
  • Received an international Meritorious Award that was issued in August 2017 in London during IAAF World Championships.
  • Promoted Athletics South Africa from position seven to number one out of two hundred and fifteen countries that competed during World Youth Championship in July 2017 (Nairobi, Kenya).
  • Improved ranking of South African Athletics team to number (5) five out of (215) two hundred and ten participating countries during Rio Olympic Games in 2016.
  • Elevated South African Youth Team from position 43rd to 7th in 2015 at the IAAF World Youth championships in Cali, Colombia.
  • Ascended SA Senior Team from No 5 to No1 in 2014 (Morocco) during the African Athletics Confederation championships and defended it in Durban (2016).
  • Advanced SA Senior Team in 2015 from No 33 to 13 at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing.
  • Brought major National and International Athletics events and Championships to KZN.
  • Increasing and supporting the rural athletics events in the African communities to honor the heroes and heroines viz Ulundi Marathon, JZ Marathon, OR Tambo Marathon, Umlazi to KwaMashu Marathon, Soweto Marathon, etc.
  • Transformed Comrades Marathon Association from being a white dominated money making event to embrace fully the people of South Africa.
  • Brought more sponsors for KZN Spar Ladies 5km &10km races.
  • Prepared and presented a plan to NATIONAL LOTTERY DISTRIBUTION BOARD in 2002 and received millions for equipment and development programmes for Athletics in rural areas of KZN.
  • Brought about Transformation and Development in the Sport of Athletics in KZN by prioritizing Rural and Township Communities.
